In a powerful demonstration of empathy and social responsibility, the NTIC Kano Alumni recently carried out a significant outreach visit to a local correctional center. This initiative exemplified their commitment to uplifting marginalized groups and addressing pressing societal issues with actionable solutions.

The visit was marked by impactful engagements with the inmates, including words of encouragement and solidarity. A standout moment was an address by Barrister Sadiya Mahraz, a respected alumna of the 2015 set, who emphasized the need for society to show compassion. “We must remain considerate of those in correctional facilities and ensure they are not forgotten,” she urged, advocating for a humane and inclusive approach to rehabilitation.

During the visit, three inmates facing debt-related challenges were identified. Alumni lawyers who were part of the outreach took their details for further investigation, signaling a proactive effort to provide legal aid and potentially resolve these financial entanglements. This step demonstrated the alumni’s determination to go beyond symbolic gestures and address systemic barriers hindering the inmates’ reintegration into society.

Essential supplies were also distributed, offering relief and a reminder of the outside world’s care. The outreach concluded with heartfelt prayers for the well-being of the inmates, their families, and the correctional staff dedicated to their care.
